Women and girls refugees and migrants face uncertainty and challenges on a daily basis, and yet remain strong and down-to-earth. This is one of  the drivers for Atina employees, to follow them, listen and try to create a stable surroundings where they will enjoy spending their time and working on their development.

The approach Atina has been building for years has yielded high level of trust of women who currently live in Asylum Centers in Krnjaca and Bogovadja, but also the trust of the ones who regularly visit Reintegration Center NGO Atina, and feel like home there.

We never run out of conversation topics, among which stand out the ones coming from the experience of these women, real life situations they have encountered and they are eager to share with the members of Atina teams.  The most important topics, according to them, and the team members, are critical thinking skills we jointly build and joyful topics they hadn’t explored that much in the past such us gender roles, work and social, women’s rights, emotions that are navigating them throughout life.

Atina’s teams talk to them about smuggling risks, gender based violence, not only how to protect themselfves from the human trafficking and violence, but to become independent. Moreover they try to establish a supportive group dynamics with integrated principles such as solidarity. The approach is tailored to age, interests, cultural context, and country of origin of women refugees and migrants.

Gender perspective, the role of women in refugee and migrant circumstances, educational component and interactive approach are  special values of the implementation of the activities, supported by the United Nations Population Fund and carried out within the Asylum Center in Krnjaca, Bogovadja and Reintegration Center in NGO Atina.
