It is time for the integration of migrants into Serbian society

Institutions in Serbia can no longer treat migrants from Middle East as if they are passing through our territory, but need to take responsibility for their integration into Serbian society.

That is the message of today’s conference of the Association for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings “Atina” and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the Media Center.

A training session on the topic of monitoring was held for 16 members of the local network for monitoring and advocacy in Sid, within the project “Building Together”.

During the two days of the training, participants went through the entire monitoring cycle (overseeing, supervising, controlling) of the service and protection system that is dealing with refugees and migrants in Sid. Participants were introduced to a detailed plan of monitoring, went through goals and results, and finally summarized the researches through focus groups and in-depth interviews.

This year, Local network for combating human trafficking in the City of Vranje marks July 30, World Day against Trafficking in Persons, with an action that will include migrants as the most vulnerable category in these transactions.

Local network for combating human trafficking in Vranje will mark the World Day against Trafficking in Persons by distributing leaflets and promotional material on Monday, July 31, 2017, in the period from 11 AM to 1 PM.

Association Atina and partners, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) and NGO Macedonian Lawyers Association began implementing an international project “Building together”, during which work will be done on integration of migrants into the societies of Serbia and Macedonia.

Refugee children in Belgrade as the victims of violence?

Serbian institutions responsible for the care of minors do not have data on cases of sexual abuse of refugee children and migrants, that are traveling alone and unaccompanied, seeking shelter in one of the Western European countries.

Concerning the officials, the allegations of sexual exploitation for miserable financial compensation are still being treated as unconfirmed suspicions.

The border town of Subotica, in northern Serbia, stands as a crude example of the terrible conditions experienced by thousands of people stranded across the Balkans.
As they try to cross the border with Hungary, they are routinely pushed back by police. Many of them live in makeshift camps. To survive, they rely on the assistance from volunteers and aid organizations, including Oxfam.
