Digital violence as a priority topic of youth activism
Feminist social transformation: Digital violence as a priority topic of youth activism - Club "With girls and for girls" from Novi Sad
Club members bring rich volunteer and feminist experience from local organisations such as OPENS, and Freedom has no price. In contrast, their feminist knowledge comes from following campaigns and initiatives of feminist organisations from Serbia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina, which they skillfully incorporate into their private and activist lives.
The focus of the club is directed towards the critical topics of society, so the topics of gender-based violence, human trafficking and women's reproductive health are seen as priorities for future action. Girls also pay attention to personal data protection, digital rights and digital violence, placing their interest in areas that directly affect the lives and experiences of women and girls, especially in areas where systemic responses to these problems are inadequate.
"Many of us have experienced various forms of digital violence, and we have not come across support and help that would enable us to respond adequately. This is exactly why I believe that the topic of digital violence, especially today in the 21st century, is a priority for us as girls, but also for society as a whole." explained the representative of the club, Sara Mrđen, during the formal opening of the national club "With and for girls".
Through joint efforts and dedication, the club "With and for Girls" Novi Sad lays the foundations for positive societal changes. It empowers women's voices in the fight for freedom and equality. In addition to the support they receive from existing youth organizations, they also sought support for further efforts in this struggle from the Provincial Protector of Citizens institution and from the city's student parliament.
The "With and for Girls" club from Novi Sad became a centre of inspiration and new feminist energy. With 20 members who have undergone training as part of the project, the club represents a combination of enthusiasm, knowledge, volunteer experience, and the desire for systematic and profound changes.
This news was created as part of the project "Initiative of young feminist advocates in Serbia", which has been implemented by the Citizens' Association Atina with the support of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade, in cooperation with the organisation Schüler Helfen Leben (SHL).
