During last year, out of 57 victims of human trafficking, almost half of them, that is 24, were children. Traffickers most commonly use children for forced labour or begging, criminal activities, sexual exploitation or forced marriages, as stated by NGO “Atina”, organization that deals with combating human trafficking.

Protection of children from violence and sexual exploitation - an obligation of everyone working with children
On the occasion of the current media coverage of girls who are victims of sexual abuse, as civil society organizations that fight for a better life and the rights of children and their families, we would like to emphasize the following:
Atina at the conference “Good Practices and Challenges in Supporting Children in Migration”
On June 14, 2017, a conference “Good Practices and Challenges in Supporting Children in Migration” was held in Belgrade, organized by International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Save the Children.
Children refugees are facing numerous challenges on their journey. These children are exposed to greater risk of sexual exploitation and abuse, child labor, human trafficking, and various forms of abuse and violence which requires urgent and systematic action.
Belgrade -- more vulnerable than adults, exposed to smugglers and violence, and they do not know how to protect themselves - children make up a third of the refugees seeking their way to Europe.
The most vulnerable among them are those who are travelling without their parents, usually in a group of peers or accompanied by unknown people.
