Citizens’ Association Atina report to GREVIO committee on the application of the Istanbul Convention

Association Atina has submitted a report on the application of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence to the GREVIO expert group.  The emphasis of Atina’s report was placed on the violence against women among refugee and migrant population, which has been in focus since the breakout of the migrant crisis in the summer of 2015. 

Aside from Atina, reports have also been submitted by the Autonomous Women’s Center, Association of Roma Novi Becej, while the responses to the questions from GREVIO questionnaire on the application of the Convention were submitted by the Protector of Citizens. 

Moreover, an independent report was compiled by a group of non-governmental organizations whose work was coordinated by the Network SOS network Vojvodina in cooperation with SeConSa.  The following organizations that are part of the Network SOS Vojvodina: Center for support of women (Kikinda), ...OUT OF CIRCLE - VOJVODINA (Novi Sad), SOS Women’s center (Novi Sad), Woman’s alternative (Sombor), Association of Roma Novi Becej – SOS hotline in the languages of the minorities (Novi Becej) and Zrenjanin education center (Zrenjanin). Besides the members of this network, the folling organizations also provided their contribution: Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, Osvit from Nis, Women’s Leadership Academy from Belgrade, Woman’s Alternative from Sombor, Human Rights Board Vranje and Citizens’ Association Atina.

Serbia signed the Council of Europe Convention on preventing violence against women and domestic violence in 2012, it was ratified in 2013, and it entered into force on August 1, 2014. In July 2018 first state report on the application of this convention in our country.
