Recognizing criminal offense of human trafficking in Vranje

Local team for prevention and combating human trafficking organized a training on May 10, 2019, in Medical High School “Dr Isabel Emslie Hutton“ in Vranje, intended primarily for the expert workers and associates of elementary schools and high schools, representatives of the Local team for prevention and combating human trafficking of the city of Vranje, and other relevant actors in charge of early detection and provision of assistance and protection to potential victims of human trafficking.

The training “Recognizing the criminal offense of human trafficking, forms of human trafficking today, identification, reporting the criminal offense of human trafficking, and mechanisms of providing protection to (potential) human trafficking victims“ was conducted by Danijela Milosavljević, President of the Local Team for prevention and combating human trafficking and City Counselor for social issues of the City of Vranje, Danijela Trajković, Prosecutor with the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Vranje, Boban Đorđević, Coordinator of the team for combating human trafficking in the Vranje Police Directorate, Saša Stojanović, inspector in the Vranje Police Directorate, Beba Кanački, vice president and PR of the Local Team for prevention and combating human trafficking.

The purpose of the training was to familiarize all the actors engaged in the protection system with the existing legal framework at the national level, referral pathways for potential victims to all the available capacities and services at both local and national level, as well as with existing results in the work of Local Team for prevention and combating human trafficking.  

Local Team for prevention and combating human trafficking of the City of Vranje was formed in 2013. Members of the team are relevant organizations and institutions of the state and civil sector at the local level who are involved in the protection system of potential human trafficking victims: City of Vranje, Center for Social Work, City Directorate for Child Protection, City Secretariat for Education, Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office, National Employment Service, Vranje Health Center, Red Cross in Vranje, Vranje Police Directorate, Vranje Youth Office, Center for the Development of Local Services of Social Protection in Vranje, Citizens’ Association Nexus – Vranje, SOS Vranje, Board for Human Rights Vranje, Roma Center for Democracy, Roma Office Vranje, as well as numerous partner organizations and associations. Since its founding, the Local Team has had exceptional results primarily in the area of prevention and has been cited as an example of good practice both in the country and the regional.  

This training that was organized by the Local Team for prevention and combating human trafficking in Vranje, with support of Citizens’ Association Atina, was conducted within the project “From Harm to Safety: Improving the protection of human trafficking victims in Serbia” which is being implemented in cooperation with the International Rescue Committee, with the support of U.S. State Department Office for combating human trafficking.
